You can choose from different weaving techniques:
A combination of the two
As a basis for your carpet, we have six standard designs:
We can even combine our standard designs. Even better - you can make your own design with geometric shapes. Our team is happy to help you!
Each Carpet of Life is based on Moroccan Boucherouite carpets, created by nomad families. Boucherouite is also referred to as 'poor man's carpet': made from old materials.
Boucherouite carpets have been on the rise since the 1960s. Wool became scarcer at that time. At the same time, more and more clothes were discarded due to the rise of fast fashion. Boucherouite carpets can be found in many Moroccan homes, they are sometimes used for sleeping.
Although this type of carpet is relatively new, the same techniques are used for traditional wool carpets. This craft of carpet making has been passed on from mother to daughter. Usually, it is four or five women working on one carpet at the same time - dividing the roles between cutting, sorting, and knotting...but also cooking, making tea, and watching the children.
